You probably don’t spend a lot of time thinking about your septic system as long as it’s working properly. However, like most large fixtures, septic tanks need to be properly maintained to continue to function the way they should. Septic pumping is a critical part of septic maintenance, and there are plenty of signs to look out for that indicate the service is needed.

Signs You Need Septic Pumping

  1. Clogs. Though your toilet may clog occasionally, if you are noticing that a toilet in your home is constantly clogging, or you notice sewage backup from your drains or toilets, this likely indicates a blocked line. Septic pumping can alleviate these problems and ensure your entire system is able to work properly.
  1. Strange Sounds from Plumbing Appliances. If you notice unusual gurgling sounds when you use a sink, take a shower, or flush your toilet, these can be signs that you need septic pumping. These noises occur when air is pushed through the drainpipe instead of water, which is caused by blockages and buildups in the septic tank.
  1. Standing Water and Odd Smells Outside. If you notice that water has suddenly started to pool in your yard by your septic tank, or that it’s started to smell, it may be because of a septic issue. Wastewater may escape into your yard when your septic tank is full and starts to overflow. Clogs in your septic ventilation can also cause the smell of sewage to seep into your yard.
